Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki drops a strong message on this Year’s Children’s Day.

Today May 27 is Children’s Day- a day set aside world over to promote actions and programes that benefits and promotes the welfare of the world's children.

And the immediate past president of Nigeria’s Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki has joined the rest of the world in marking the day, with powerful words posted on his official social media page:

The first few lines of Whitney Houston's "The Greatest Love of All" are a timeless reminder of the position of children as the future of any society. They are also a reminder of the responsibility parents and society bear to teach them well and let them lead the way.

It is with this in mind that I wish children around Nigeria a #HappyChildrensDay knowing that you all represent our hope for the future.

The words of that song also form the basis for my appeal to our society to see the beauty in our children and teach and provide for them well so they can lead the way
.”
Why is May 27 Children's Day?- First proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1954, it was established to encourage all countries to institute a day, firstly to promote mutual exchange and understanding among children and secondly to initiate action to benefit and promote the welfare of the world's children.
